The Story

Here, in Andy's own words, is what happened on the show. If you want to enjoy the suspense of the "Millionaire" episode, you may want to watch the video clips before reading this essay.

Andy

Of the 10 people in my contestant pool, 3 had made to this level of the show before. One guy was a former 5 day Jeopardy champ, and one guy had been on Greed. A genuine pack of freaks of which I was a proud member.

Two out of the 10 contestants got to sit in the hot seat with "Reeg." I answered the first fastest finger question correctly and in the fastest time so I was the first to get to sit in the "hot seat." The first five questions were incredibly easy, so boom, just like that I had made $1000.

The frickin` $4000 question was a bitch, and, frankly, the hardest $4000 question I`ve ever seen on the show. I asked the audience, and after seeing the results of that poll I knew my luck had run out. They gave me absolutly NOTHING.

The question was approximately: Whose novels were turned into the movies "Get Shorty", "Jackie Brown", and "Out of Sight"?

A) Elmore Leonard ... B) Terry McMillian
C) Scott Turow ... D) Richard Chadwick

The audience gave me A)36% B) 19% C) 30% D) 15%.

Those were the most ambivalent results of an audience poll I had ever seen on that show. There are only like 150 people in the audience so the margin of error with that kind of sample is huge. Plus about half the audience looked like they were in their early 20`s and late teens, so I figured lots of them just punched in whatever answer for the hell of it.

So it was down to A and C in my mind and I made the wrong call. But at least I won a grand, and it was an incredible experience. Plus I told a pretty gross anecdote to Regis on the air, and put on a good show ... I think.
